Working through clauses is at the heart of the Be Certified platform. Each certification is broken down into a series of clauses — these are the individual requirements you need to meet. This guide explains how to read, respond to, and complete each one.
Understanding Clauses
When you open a certification, you’ll see it organised into sections, each containing a number of clauses. Every clause represents a specific requirement of the Standard you’re working towards.
For each clause, you’ll find:
• The clause requirement — What the Standard is asking for.
• Expert guidance — A plain-English explanation written by our consultants, telling you exactly what this means for your business and what kind of answer and evidence is expected.
• Sample answers — Examples to show you the kind of response that will satisfy an auditor.
Writing Your Response
1. Read the guidance carefully — Before writing anything, read the expert guidance. It will tell you what the auditor is looking for in practical terms.
2. Write your answer — In the response area, describe how your business meets this requirement. Be specific — refer to actual processes, roles, and documents within your organisation.
3. Attach evidence — Where the clause requires supporting documents (such as policies, risk assessments, or records), upload them directly. You can also link to documents already in your document storage area.
4. Use Check My Answer — Once you’re happy with your response, use the AI-powered Check My Answer tool to get feedback on whether your answer is audit-ready. See Using the Check My Answer AI Tool.
Tip: You don’t have to complete every clause in order. Start with the areas you’re most confident about and come back to trickier ones later. Your progress is saved automatically.
Tracking Your Progress
As you complete clauses, your progress is automatically updated on your dashboard. You’ll be able to see at a glance which clauses are complete, in progress, or not yet started.
A clause is marked as complete once you’ve provided your response and any required evidence. You can always come back and update your answers later if needed.
Tips for Strong Responses
• Be specific to your business — avoid generic answers. Auditors want to see that your processes are real and operational.
• Reference actual documents, roles, and procedures by name.
• If a template would help, check the Templates section — we have over 100 auditor-approved templates ready to use.
• Don’t worry about getting it perfect first time. You can revise your answers as many times as you need.
